Characteristics:
GenneperParken has an extension of 3000km*2 and is the biggest park in Eindhoven. The park is a recreational area with lots of activities and attractions.
This big green area is bordered to the north by the first ring of the city and to the west by the Dommel river. In addition it is placed in a peaceful neighborhood with the presence of different kinds of people: elderlies, mothers with their children and young sportsmen/women.
Plant life:
GenneperParken still houses a rich ecological community. There are hundreds of species of plants and trees, the most common one is the poplar tree. There are also a lot of species of flowers in the park, such as the Speedwell and the Wood Anemone.
During the spring, the park transforms itself into a colors explosion, full of beautiful landscapes and smells.
History:
The former Eindhoven area of the current GenneperParken has a long history. During the late 19th century, the urban area of Eindhoven increased exponentially. Fortunately this change didn't attack the beauty of this huge green space. Then, in the early 80s GenneperParken was divided into four different zones to protect the landscapes and to strengthen its recreational functions. In the last years this effort was realized. Now the park attracts about three million visitors annually.
Activities:
Multiple and for everyone are the activities that the park offers. You can join the sportive activities by yourself or in the sport centrum De Tongelreep, the educational ones in the Eindhoven museum or you can just relax and join the nature alone or with your family, along the park or in the farm. Finally when you are thirsty or hungry, you can have a great rest at the Paviljoen.
Paviljoen Genneperparken.
The best place to eat and drink inside the park. One of the most appreciated place by runners after their sportive activities.
Genneperhoeve farm.
A peaceful place for the entire family. It’s possible to get in touch with chickens, pigs and cows. Really nice in the sunny days. The farm even sells its genuine products.
De Tongelreep.
The national swimming center offers the possibility to join the summer all year long. It's suitable also for family with children.
Eindhoven museum.
A good retrospective on customs and traditions of the Medieval city of Eindhoven. You can discover the old typical clothes and houses.
